  • NAFTA and Sets

Question: I would like to know how others are handling the scenario where theywant to gain the advantage of the unconditionally free duty rate of aretail set based on the essential character item, but also want to claimNAFTA on the essential character item (to save on MPF) and not claimNAFTA on the whole set since […]

  • Nafta Cert of Origin

Question: I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I didn’t come across it in the ICPA library. Is it acceptable for a producer to state “Various” in field one, if they are not the exporter (ie, a domestic transaction), or should they leave it blank? I have a producer that stated “Various” […]

  • NAFTA PRODUCER

We have a toller manufacture our product. It is our formula and our raw materials (ordered/paid for by us to ship to the toller). They produce for us when we do not have the capacity to make what we need. We have all the information to qualify for NAFTA – yet who is really responsible? […]

  • NAFTA EXEMPTIONS

Does anyone in the membership know if there are any exemptions to the NAFTA Certificate of Origin requirement? If there are any exemptions I would appreciate it if the relevant regulation and/or citation could be provided. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • PROPOSAL TO EXTEND CO TARIFF SHIFTRULES

Has anyone reviewed the recently published (Fed Register 7-25-2008) Customs proposal to extend the NAFTA c/o tariff shift rules in 19CFR102.20 to all imported products? Although it won’t impact every product in the same fashion, I can see were importers may like/dislike the proposal. I’m neutral on it, but was wondering if anyone felt strongly […]

  • VENDOR RESPONSE FOR NAFTA INFO

How are you organized to ensure a high vendor response rate when soliciting confirmation of NAFTA parts eligibility? We struggle getting vendor attention and oftentimes wind up sending out multiple requests asking if what we buy from them is NAFTA eligible.

Question:I have product in stock used to make a finished good that has been instock for 3 years.Since a NAFTA is only good for 1 year do I need to request another NAFTA from that vendor or does it still qualify since I had the originalcertificate from when I purchased the material?

  • NAFTA Q&A 1

Does anyone out there have conclusive evidence that the Mexican goverenment does not require the Mexican importer possess a NAFTA certificate with an original ink signature to make a NAFTA claim? I’m sure this can’t be a legal requirement, but need to back it up.

  • NAFTA Q&A 2

What’s the group’s opinion on putting the CUSTOMER’s part #s on NAFTA certs of origin for export? My policy is AGAINST it. I certify part #123 that I make. Period. We get a ton of requests to either list the customer part # in addition to ours, which means I have to produce several certificates […]

  • NAFTA Q&A 3

The Fed Register mentioned a change to the NAFTA regulations specifically addressing ADP equipment of 8471 as well as some ADP parts. I have been looking and have not yet seen this change reflected in the NAFTA regs. Has anyone else been monitoring this, know if the regs have been published or has an opinion […]

  • NAFTA Q&A 4

Situation: we produce Commodity A in the US, but have run out of capacity and are therefore importing the same product from our sister company in Sweden. The items are identical, but are small enough so that the C/O cannot be marked on the item, but on the plastic bag. Commodity A is manufactured wholly […]

This division sells glass supplied by related manufacturers, unrelated manufacturers and unrelated distributors. The glass is detailed on our invoices by a specific part “NAG” number. A NAG number can have multiple countries of origin as it may be purchased from different […]
