  • NAFTA Q&A 6

My company performs quarterly audits on NAFTA entries and in doing so, I have discovered two items that have been imported and for which NAFTA benefits have been claimed that were not included in the itemized listing that the Vendor/Manufacturer completed for the NAFTA certificate. If I ask the vendor to update the NAFTA cert, […]

We have a customer that is asking for a “letter of non-eligibility” for a product that does not qualify for NAFTA. Is there a “standard” form available for this or does anyone have a template they would be willing to share. This is the first we’ve had a request like this.

Could someone recommend a good NAFTA training session on the West Coast in the upcoming months please? Thanks

Is a “blanket” EUR.1 Movement Certificate allowable under the European Union-Mexico Free Trade Agreement (EUMFTA) for entry into Mexico? Is there any provision for an annual certification (for example)? In other words, can the EUR.1 be administered similar to the NAFTA Certificate of Origin (blanket for a twelve month period)?

My company is attempting to purchase products from a Mexican vendor who assembles the product within a Maquilladora. We are currently Purchasing this product from them in the US after the company has exported/imported it themselves from Mexico into the US. When pressed to change this to a Mexican sale, the company indicates that because […]

I am an exporter of automotive parts to Canada. We do not manufacture any of the goods we sell. With regard to NAFTA, we create certificates based upon the information and certificates we receive from our vendors (over 300 vendors). WhatI’m wondering is, do you think it is acceptable to create only 1 certificate for […]

  • NAFTA Q&A 12

We have a product that is assembled in the U.S. from U.S. and foreign components. The product is not eligible for NAFTA treatment since it does not undergo a tariff shift and does not satisfy the regional content test. Thus, the product cannot be marked “Made in USA”. We want to sell the product in […]

When calculating RVC what type of certification from the manufacture that provides US, CA or MX components is required to support the RVC? Situation: We have components with origins of China, Japan, US and Mexico. When assembled we calculate the RVC and it meets the NAFTA RVC percentage. When we gather supporting documentation for the […]

  • NAFTA Q&A 14

My company makes numerous low value (less than $1,000) shipments to Mexico that qualify for NAFTA benefits. I have been told that we can either provide a separate NAFTA document or a statement on our commercial invoice about the NAFTA qualifying products. Does anyone have experience using the statement in place of the separate NAFTA […]

Question: We ship US origin block glass (subheading 7005) to our sister plant in Canada who manufactures the glass into finished, laminated windshields (7007.21.1010). There are times when they need to send sample glass to our Technical Center in the US for quality checks. In this case the glass is cut to a windshield shape […]

Does the EXPORTER in Block 1 of a NAFTA Certificate (CF434) need to match the name of the company that signs the certificate? Since I am lazy (I am ex-Customs) I want to ask our supplier to put our name in the EXPORTER field so we can use their NAFTA to supply to our Canadian/Mexican […]

  • NAFTA Q&A 17

I work for Company A, the exporter. We buy a product from Company B, the producer. Can you have, on one certificate, Company A’s address in field 1 and Company B’s address in field 3? The directions on the CF434 say “When the Certificate is completed by the producer for use by the exporter, it […]
