What do other companies do for AES reporting when exporting laptops or other similar items that contains software, but does not include separate CDs with the shipment? At a seminar given by Census we were told that the laptop and software had to be reported separately. How do others report this?

While auditing our export paperwork, I discovered that a vendor did not submit an SED on our behalf for a shipment to Puerto Rico a few months ago. Should I just file a late SED in this situation because this is a shipment to Puerto Rico?
Question – we file all export via AES and print SED just for record keeping. Is this necessary or are we ok to have the AES filing number in case we are ever audited?
